Asbell Planet Services Donates Equipment and Awards Scholarship in Support of Local High School
From May 15 to Sept.1, Planet Fitness® clubs across the United States and Canada opened their doors to high school teenagers to work out for free at their local club. In its inaugural year, the Teen Summer Challenge saw more than 900,000 kids sign up for the program and complete over 5 million workouts. In Virginia alone, more than 19,000 teens completed over 102,000 workouts this summer. All teens who signed up for the Teen Summer Challenge were automatically entered into Planet Fitness’ Scholarship Sweepstakes. In the United States, 51 lucky teens across all 50 states were randomly selected to receive a $500 scholarship.
Asbell Planet Services, which operates clubs in central and southwest Virginia, was excited to learn that one of the scholarship recipients was a teen in their community, James M. “We are excited to present James M. with a scholarship on behalf of Planet Fitness and the Teen Summer Challenge,” said Bill Asbell, franchisee with Asbell Planet Fitness. “The Teen Summer Challenge surpassed our expectations, and we’re pleased that so many teens incorporated fitness into their routines. Some were even rewarded for it with a scholarship! We’re so thrilled that Planet Fitness could play a small part in helping teens develop healthy habits and increase their self-esteem through physical activity.”
James M. attends Dinwiddie High School, where Asbell recently donated its used equipment for the school’s students and athletes to utilize. “The equipment has been a great addition to our school,” said Jennifer Wegman with Dinwiddie High School’s physical education department. “It’s all about our students and finding different ways to meet their individual needs. This equipment helps us teach skills to lead a healthy lifestyle and brings more learning opportunities, not only for this school year, but for many years to come. Thank you, Bill Asbell and Planet Fitness! We are very excited and grateful!”
