CDM Celebrates New Planet Fitness Club in Lakewood, Washington

Grand opening events for new Planet Fitness® clubs help bring the community together for exciting new fitness additions. Core Development & Management (CDM) celebrated the grand opening of its 19th club in the Seattle-Tacoma area on June 10. The grand opening event consisted of club tours and free workouts for attendees, as well as complimentary refreshments and access to try out the Black Card Spa amenities.

Attendees were able to enjoy onsite music from WARM 106.9, hosted by Shellie Hart, and could enter to win several exciting raffle prizes, such as an Apple Watch, a 55-inch TV, and University of Washington football and volleyball tickets. The day’s festivities also included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Lakewood Mayor Jason Whalen and the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, as well as a $1,000 check presentation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound.

Additionally, the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce shared its excitement over the new PF® club by presenting the official proclamation that welcomed Planet Fitness to the community. The new PF club was welcomed with open arms by community members.

Mayor of Lakewood Jason Whalen joins the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound and the Planet Fitness Lakewood team to officially cut the ribbon at CDM’s new club.

“It was exciting to welcome the Lakewood community into this new location, where we can grow stronger together,” said CDM CEO Bruce Edwards.

The 17,726-square-foot PF club has been open since March 28, offering members a wealth of amenities, including 90 pieces of strength equipment, 62 pieces of cardio equipment, free fitness training with a certified fitness trainer, dedicated stretching and abs area, functional training room and a Black Card Spa with HydroMassage loungers, massage chairs, Beauty Angel Red Light Therapy and more.

Baseline Fitness Pushes Forward with Support for World’s Largest Cycling Tour

In July, Baseline Fitness once again hit the road to support the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, a yearly seven-day bicycle ride across the state and the largest recreational bicycle touring event in the world. Every year, RAGBRAI brings thousands of riders through local communities during the iconic trip.

For the third year in a row, the Baseline Fitness team proudly showed up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, as one of the cyclists’ stops, providing participants with Planet Fitness®-branded water, PF® swag and good energy. Baseline had around 10-12 staff helping at the event. The team’s positive energy encouraged the cyclists to pedal to the end.

The company’s ongoing involvement at RAGBRAI reflects its commitment to supporting local communities and celebrating healthy, active lifestyles. Baseline felt tied to the event given its seven PF clubs in the Cedar Rapids market, allowing them to come together and connect with fitness-conscious individuals in the area.

“RAGBRAI brought an incredible wave of energy to Cedar Falls, and our community truly shone in front of 20,000-plus riders. Having Planet Fitness as a partner made that success possible – their support helped us create an unforgettable experience for the riders, visitors and locals who came together to celebrate. It was a perfect example of what happens when great events and great partners come together,” said Cedar Falls Tourism Sales and Marketing Representative Adam Bolander.

Houston Fitness Partners Helps Member Celebrate 85th Birthday

Planet Fitness® prides itself on being a Judgement Free Zone®, creating a space for all to exercise safely. Despite PF®’s welcoming environment, some people may still get “gym-timidation” due to the fear of what others think about how they look or how old they are. This is not the case for Thomas Newton, an 85-year-old PF member who hits the gym without a second thought.

For Newton, he found a home at Planet Fitness, where he has been devoted to his fitness for years, showing that age is just merely a number and fitness has no age limit. He has been a dedicated member of Houston Fitness Partners’ Steeplechase location for the past 10 years and has been devoted to fitness for over 60 years.

Thomas Newton, PF member at Houston Fitness Partners’ Steeplechase location, celebrated his 85th birthday with several PF staff members.

About 23 years ago, he found out he had a 95% blockage in his heart and needed to undergo surgery. This health scare was a turning point in his fitness journey, and it pushed him to get back into a regular workout routine. He currently works out several times a week at Planet Fitness and doesn’t drink alcohol, working hard to stay healthy. He credits his regular fitness routine as the reason he has stayed strong and healthy into his 80s. As a PF regular, he has become a role model for other members in the club, showing them that anything is possible with determination and grit.

To celebrate his 85th birthday, the staff at HFP surprised him with balloons, birthday cheer and PF swag. He was able to celebrate 85 years strong with other PF staff and members. His inspiring story was also shared on Fox 26 as a part of National Senior Health and Fitness Day in May.

“Hanging out with Thomas was such a joy. He’s full of energy, great stories and a real passion for staying healthy. He’s a perfect example of what Planet Fitness is all about: showing up, staying strong and proving that fitness really has no age limit,” said Manager of Marketing & Communications Abby Salenga.
