Asbell Planet Services Donates Equipment and Awards Scholarship in Support of Local High School

From May 15 to Sept.1, Planet Fitness® clubs across the United States and Canada opened their doors to high school teenagers to work out for free at their local club. In its inaugural year, the Teen Summer Challenge saw more than 900,000 kids sign up for the program and complete over 5 million workouts. In Virginia alone, more than 19,000 teens completed over 102,000 workouts this summer. All teens who signed up for the Teen Summer Challenge were automatically entered into Planet Fitness’ Scholarship Sweepstakes. In the United States, 51 lucky teens across all 50 states were randomly selected to receive a $500 scholarship.

Asbell Planet Services, which operates clubs in central and southwest Virginia, was excited to learn that one of the scholarship recipients was a teen in their community, James M. “We are excited to present James M. with a scholarship on behalf of Planet Fitness and the Teen Summer Challenge,” said Bill Asbell, franchisee with Asbell Planet Fitness. “The Teen Summer Challenge surpassed our expectations, and we’re pleased that so many teens incorporated fitness into their routines. Some were even rewarded for it with a scholarship! We’re so thrilled that Planet Fitness could play a small part in helping teens develop healthy habits and increase their self-esteem through physical activity.”

James M. attends Dinwiddie High School, where Asbell recently donated its used equipment for the school’s students and athletes to utilize. “The equipment has been a great addition to our school,” said Jennifer Wegman with Dinwiddie High School’s physical education department. “It’s all about our students and finding different ways to meet their individual needs. This equipment helps us teach skills to lead a healthy lifestyle and brings more learning opportunities, not only for this school year, but for many years to come. Thank you, Bill Asbell and Planet Fitness! We are very excited and grateful!”

PF Michigan Group Celebrates Reopening of Farmington Hills Club

In June, PF Michigan Group reopened its Farmington Hills location after spending about a month on renovations. This completed the second part of a two-phase remodel that began last year in the Black Card ® area. The modernized and upgraded location has new wall coverings, tile walkways and renovated locker rooms. The front desk and break room were also refurbished.

“We wanted this location to be in sync with all of our new locations,” says Art Nichols, director of facilities and construction at PF Michigan Group. “It starts with the recommendation from PFHQ on what needs to be updated, and we add to that the enhancements we are doing in our other new facilities.”

The Farmington Hills club hosted a grand reopening event to showcase the new facility. Several hundred people attended, including club members, friends and members of the Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce. The event was co-hosted by popular morning radio host MOJO of iHeart Radio Channel 955, who posed for photos and mingled with guests. Several exciting prizes were raffled during the event, including an Apple Watch, Khalid concert tickets and a one-year Black Card® Membership.

PF Michigan Group kept its tradition of presenting a $1,000 check to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. “We like to use these events to highlight our philanthropic partnership and promote the Boys & Girls Clubs’ dedication to combatting bullying that impacts today’s youth,” said Mary Scott, director of marketing for PF Michigan Group. “It is such a good opportunity to spread our judgement-free philosophy for all generations.”

Sub sandwiches, pizza and special Planet Fitness® cupcakes were served at the reopening. The club offered a special promotion encouraging new customers to join at discounted rates. “Our current members were very anxious for us to reopen, and the feedback on the remodel has been overwhelmingly positive,” Scott said.

NASCAR Driver Joey Logano Visits Two National Fitness Partners Grand-Opening Celebrations

On his way to an important race at Dover International Speedway, NASCAR driver Joey Logano made a pit stop at two Planet Fitness® locations to help celebrate their grand openings. He visited the PF® clubs in Seaford, Delaware, and Etters, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 3. Logano is the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series champion and has won two more races in 2019.

The event was open to the public and featured food, music and giveaways. Guests could enter to win signed Joey Logano merchandise. Two especially lucky fans at each location were given a VIP NASCAR Race Experience at Pocono Raceway in June 2020, complete with a 15-minute meet-and-greet with Logano, all-access pit passes for the weekend of the race, exclusive merchandise and more.

“Professional racing and staying fit go hand-in-hand,” said Logano. “Staying in shape is crucial so I can be mentally and physically fit to battle 39 other drivers each weekend. Planet Fitness is a perfect fit for my lifestyle because I can come and go as my schedule sees fit. Plus, when I’m racing at a different track each weekend, I can use my Planet Fitness Black Card® and get a good workout in wherever I go.”

Logano visited and took photos with fans before helping cut the ribbons to celebrate the openings of the new National Fitness Partners locations. In Seaford, fans were able to take photos with Logano’s car, the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford. Guests had a last-chance opportunity to become a PF member for $1 down and $10 a month.

“Planet Fitness is proud to partner with Joey Logano,” said Stephen Kindler Jr., CEO of National Fitness Partners. “Planet Fitness is committed to providing a clean, comfortable and affordable way for community members to exercise. We want to change lives and save lives through health and wellness in a non-intimidating environment.”
