Ohana Growth Partners Celebrates Two Grand Reopenings in Washington State

Summer was anything but slow for Ohana Growth Partners and its clubs in Washington. Ohana Growth Partners celebrated the grand reopening of two locations in Washington state – on June 29, Ohana’s club in Bremerton reopened, followed by the Federal Way location the very next day!

About 150 people attended each grand reopening event. Additionally, each included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local dignitaries and the Chambers of Commerce. Ohana Growth Partners presented a $1,000 check to the local Boys & Girls Clubs in both locations.

The celebrations also included fun activities for everyone. Many popular athletes from the Washington Huskies and Harry the Husky came to show their support and sign autographs, including linebacker Carson Bruener, softball infielder SilentRain Espinoza, wide receiver and kickoff return specialist Giles Jackson and defensive lineman Ulumoo Ale.

There were giveaways and prizes such as a 65-inch Smart TV, Amazon Echo Show, Apple Watch and Huskies game tickets, apparel and specialty items. There were free workouts and a 30-Minute express class for everyone who attended, as well as complimentary refreshments.

As part of the grand reopening event, Ohana Growth Partners gave out prizes such as a 65-inch Smart TV. University of Washington football players Carson Bruener and Giles Jackson and Chief Marketing Officer with Ohana Growth Partners Josh Gerber congratulate the TV raffle winner.

Both clubs originally opened in 2017 and recently underwent over $1 million in renovations, including updated locker rooms, new restrooms, new entrance way floor tile, new rubber flooring and new wallcoverings.

“The continual investment in the Federal Way and Bremerton health clubs and communities is why we do what we do,” said Ohana Growth Partners Chief Marketing Officer Josh Gerber. “Today, fitness is more than just about losing weight and getting in shape, it’s about your mental health. We would like to thank all that attend our grand openings; we hope these clubs serve as a comfortable, judgment-free environment for these communities for many years to come.”

Ohana Growth Partners gave back to the community during its grand reopening of a location in Washington by presenting a $1,000 check to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound.

EPIC Fitness Spruces Up Local High School Weight Room

EPIC Fitness partnered with the Detroit Pistons basketball team and the United Dairy Industry of Michigan to remodel a weight room for Detroit Western International High School. This is the second consecutive year EPIC Fitness has helped renovate a local high school’s weight room. Last year, Denby High School received a makeover of its weight room.

When the Detroit Pistons and the United Dairy Industry of Michigan approached EPIC Fitness for help, it was an easy yes for the franchise group. With programs like the High School Summer Pass, Planet Fitness® tries to promote healthy fitness habits for teenagers. The weight room renovations at Detroit Western International High School will help promote meaningful fitness habits within the school’s students.

In September, the groups unveiled the newly renovated weight room. To celebrate, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included Pistons legend Earl Cureton, Pistons Vice President of Community & Social Responsibility Erika Swilley and other Pistons employees. Additionally, Western International Principal Angel Garcia, United Dairy Chief Operating Officer Melissa Gerharter and EPIC Fitness Vice President of Marketing Mary Scott attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new and improved weight room featured co-branded Pistons wall graphics and a Milk Means More Fueling Station, which offers milk and snacks to student athletes at the high school. Additionally, EPIC Fitness provided exercise and workout equipment for the weight room, as well as flooring. The franchise group donated a mix of both cardio and strength equipment and included a Planet Fitness cleaning station with sanitation supplies. Aura Air also donated new air purifiers for the high school weight room.

“I was overwhelmed by how appreciative the students were for their new gym. Seeing the looks on their faces when they walked in for the first time was inspiring. We are so fortunate that EPIC Fitness can participate in projects like this and make a true difference in the communities that we are in,” said Scott of the renovation.

EPIC Fitness was happy to chip in with the Detroit Pistons and the United Dairy Industry of Michigan on the heavy lifting of the weight room and sees opportunities to expand similar renovations to other schools.

Ohana Growth Partners Hits a Home Run with Boys & Girls Clubs

Ohana Growth Partners hit a home run that resulted in smiles this past summer. On July 28, Ohana Growth Partners attended the Baltimore Orioles versus Tampa Bay Devil Rays game with youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford, Cecil and Metropolitan Baltimore.

As part of “Mo Gaba Day,” 280 members of the Boys & Girls Club attended the game at Oriole Park. Mo Gaba was an Orioles Hall of Famer who made a lasting impact on the city of Baltimore and Orioles team. Gaba, a 14-year-old Orioles superfan, was elected to the Orioles Hall of Fame in 2020. He was also awarded the Wild Bill Hagy Award due to being one of the team’s most passionate fans. He endured four battles with cancer before his passing in 2020.

The Ohana Growth Partners team members who went to the game included COO Justin Drummond, CMO Josh Gerber, Regional Manager Keith Stephens, Manager Ken Bowen Jr., Fitness Training Support Manager Quintin Dailey and General Manager Tracy Brown.

“Ohana Growth Partners has a culture of giving back to the community in which we serve, but we also genuinely enjoy changing people’s lives. This can be through fitness and wellness, but also through giving experiences like these,” said Drummond. “It’s all about the smiles, and we saw a lot of them at the Orioles’ game. It was amazing!”

The group was able to show their spirit by meeting the Oriole Bird mascot. The group’s seats were right behind home plate, giving them the perfect view for the game. Additionally, the Baltimore Orioles won the game, leaving the day as a positive experience for the Boys & Girls children. This was the first time Ohana Growth Partners had participated in an event like this, but it plans on doing an event like it again hopefully soon.

“We are so grateful to Ohana Growth Partners for making this special day possible for our members, some of whom had never had the chance to cheer on their home team from inside Oriole Park at Camden Yards,” said Jesse Schaefer, senior director of development and communications for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore. “What a beautiful tribute to Mo to have a group of young fans in the audience.”

National Fitness Partners Provides Help to Local Community, One Meal at a Time

Healthy food and diet are important to overall health and wellness, and it’s something many across Planet Fitness® take very seriously. Team members from NFP spent time giving back in their local community at Share Food Program’s Warehouse, which is the largest hunger relief organization in the region covering Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

On Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon, about 19 volunteers from NFP spent four hours at Share Food Program’s Warehouse packing food boxes for seniors over the age of 65 with limited income. The packed food boxes included necessary food items such as cereal, canned fruits, vegetables, etc. In total, they packed 15 pallets of food, or about 630 boxes. Each box weighed around 32 pounds for a total of 20,160 pounds of food packed for distribution!

NFP team members volunteered at Share Food Program’s Warehouse, which is the biggest hunger relief organization in the region.

Additionally, the volunteers helped by restocking the line, building and filling boxes, stacking and wrapping pallets and breaking down boxes. This was the franchise group’s first time helping with the Share Food Program, but NFP is already planning to do so again soon.

Jasel Belizaire, NFP’s diversity and inclusion specialist, was one of the volunteers. She enjoyed giving back to her local community and wants to continue to give back. “Philadelphia, the place I call my home, is one of the top 10 cities experiencing food insecurity,” Belizaire said. “I want to partner with existing organizations that are making a difference, one home at a time.”

National Fitness Partners Leaves Big Footprint with Sneaker Impact

Sometimes you must walk a mile in another person’s shoes – that is exactly what PF® franchisees do to see how they can help in their communities. Since May, National Fitness Partners took the saying a little more literally, partnering with Sneaker Impact, an organization that collects and recycles used shoes to send to those in developing countries. The shoes help improve the lives of people in need across the world.

National Fitness Partners placed sneaker collection boxes in each of its locations, encouraging Planet Fitness® members to donate their gently used sneakers. Additionally, Sneaker Impact matched $1 per pair of shoes donated to a charity of National Fitness Partners’ choice, the Boys & Girls Club of America.

From May to June, National Fitness Partners collected 1,193 pairs of shoes and donated $1,193 to the Boys & Girls Club of America. In August, the total number of shoes donated was 1,259. In total, the franchise group donated around 2,452 pairs of shoes and dollars.

National Fitness Partners placed sneaker collection boxes across its 107 locations as part of its partnership with Sneaker Impact.

National Fitness Partners was excited to support a great cause and is looking forward to making an even bigger impact next summer.

“Sneaker Impact has presented us with a great in-club opportunity to unite our communities and give back to those in need. We are even more grateful Sneaker Impact matches our collected sneaker donations to donate to the charity of our choice, the Boys and Girls Club of America. Together, Planet Fitness aims to empower a generation to grow up contributing to a more judgement-free planet! Sneaker Impact helps us with this initiative in more ways than one,” Vanni Nguyen, community relations manager with National Fitness Partners, said.
