Four Days of Fitness and Fun

The Boys & Girls Clubs (BGC) of Southern Nevada and Las Vegas Nafso Group partnered together to create the “Four Days of Fitness and Fun” event, a community initiative designed to emphasize the importance of physical fitness to Southern Nevada’s youth.

Planet Fitness® club managers and fitness instructors came to one of the BGC’s Southern Nevada locations each day from March 21-24. During their daily visits, the PF® team encouraged the club’s children as they participated in an hour-long program created to teach various exercises and stretching techniques. This was a special opportunity that gave Planet Fitness the chance to assert themselves as a community leader for fitness in the Southern Nevada area as well as provide four days of engaging fun that was enjoyed by the children and instructors alike.

“Las Vegas Nafso Group is proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada to highlight the importance of physical fitness while providing a fun-filled day to the youth of the area. Showing we care as a brand extends beyond the walls of our clubs and includes actively involving those who may not always be included in our membership base. It is important for us to reach out to the community and provide extracurricular services that are not expected, but are always appreciated,” said Las Vegas Nafso Group franchisee Jimmy Nafso.

Forbes Ranks Planet Fitness Fourth Best Franchise to Buy

Forbes calls franchises “a color-by-number opportunity” for “those who want to be entrepreneurs but don’t have a big idea.” And for the last three years, Forbes has compiled an annual list of the best – and worst – franchise investments.

This year, Planet Fitness ranked fourth on their list of best franchises to buy.

Franchises were divided into groups according to price of admission; economy franchise opportunities have entry costs of up to $150,000, coach franchise opportunities have entry costs between $150,001 and $500,000, and first class is $500,000 and up. Planet Fitness is considered first class for entry costs.

Franchises were ranked from best to worst according to information gathered by industry research firm FRANdata. FRANdata took into account growth rate over five years, five-year continuity rates and a variety of other factors. For a more in-depth explanation of how the rankings were determined, click here.

The article mentions that franchises have been on the rise since the recession; a forecast by IHS Economics predicts that in 2016 the total number of franchises will reach 795,932 while employing 9.1 million people and contributing $552 billion to GDP.

The local paper for Pueblo, Colorado, The Pueblo Chieftain, has a circulation of roughly 45,000 and holds an annual award for 100 categories, such as Best Gym and Best Boss. The people of Pueblo voted, and the winner of the Best Pueblo Gym for 2015 was Planet Fitness® and the second place winner of Best Boss was franchisee Carla Love! As nominees, the Loves were invited to the Best of Pueblo event at the Pueblo convention center to hear the official revealing of their final placing within the categories.

The news of the two awards came as a happy surprise to the Loves, who opened their first club only a year ago and credit the gym’s success to the appeal of the Planet Fitness brand, their great staff and the member service and strong demographics. “It’s a small town, it’s by word-of-mouth and I definitely think the fact that we are a 24/7 club is very big here,” reflected Vincent Love.

Carla Love continued, “[It’s] the fact that we are value-driven with the lower price point but also offer something great. As far as the gyms here, we are the newest and the most affordable. We do pride ourselves in having a very clean club and going over the top with customer service and the energy. What I believe comes from the top down, and one of my beliefs is that yes, we can be clean, but we have to thank and keep thanking customers for their business, for coming in and to know their names as well. It’s the small things, but once you get them, you can keep them.”

Carla Love shows off the company’s nominations for Best Gym and Best Boss of Pueblo.

She went on to explain how they take pride in creating a Planet Fitness experience for their customers and strive to make it a community in itself within Pueblo. “I truly do appreciate each member and I really try to take every opportunity I can to thank everybody on an individual basis for choosing us.”

Members of the staff noted that some of her most admirable characteristics as a boss are her positive energy and passion. “I am very passionate about Planet Fitness, what they stand for and the Judgement Free Zone®.”

Before being nominated as Best Boss, Carla Love didn’t even know that it was a category. “My staff took the initiative to nominate me and that tells what kind of staff I have,” she said. “I really try to lead by example. So I was glad when they [staff] said, ‘She is a leader, not a boss.’”

Carla Love believes employees work harder for the people they like and respect. “I try to do the small things for them every chance I get. I tell them how much I appreciate them, when I get compliments from members I tell them and outside of the job, I try to help them. If they come and they love their work it will come off in the numbers.”

She concluded, “I try to set the tone for the gym. I hire everyone based on their energy and when I come into the gym, I try to promote that. I think that it is my staff that has made this gym successful. I want to and try to thank them all the time. They are the ones who keep it clean and see the members every day and deliver the Planet Fitness experience.”

PF HV Management, Inc. Wins Best Exercise Facility Four Years in a Row

The Planet Fitness® in south Parkersburg, West Virginia, won the 2015 Parkersburg News and Sentinel Readers’ Choice award for Best Exercise Facility for the fourth year in a row! Yet again, the Mid-Ohio Valley location owned by PF HV Management was voted as the top place to work out at by the community members of Parkersburg. The Parkersburg location has won the award every year since opening in November 2011.

The Parkersburg location was also the first Planet Fitness in West Virginia and has since been joined by other clubs in Bridgeport, Barboursville, Cross Lanes and Morgantown. With the new locations opening, franchisees Bob Viani and Sharon Lomasney, decided to reinvest in the Parkersburg location based on what members wanted to see and ensure that all of the existing locations were updated to match the new ones.

“Being voted as the favorite workout facility four years running is truly an honor for PF HV Management. It is even more impressive, as our Mid-Ohio Valley club location has only been opened for four years! We can’t thank the people of Parkersburg enough for their support and are fiercely determined to continue providing the high level of service they have come to admire and expect,” said Lomasney.

The franchise is also a big advocate for the Planet of Triumphs and actively encourages engagement with its users on the social media platform as it is a generator of overall client satisfaction and retention. However, PF HV Management is also aiming to increase its community involvement in the Parkersburg area through various outreach efforts. Despite these efforts, it appears that the community of Parkersburg is already enamored with the club, four years running, with no sign of slowing down.
