EPIC Fitness partnered with the Detroit Pistons basketball team and the United Dairy Industry of Michigan to remodel a weight room for Detroit Western International High School. This is the second consecutive year EPIC Fitness has helped renovate a local high school’s weight room. Last year, Denby High School received a makeover of its weight room.

When the Detroit Pistons and the United Dairy Industry of Michigan approached EPIC Fitness for help, it was an easy yes for the franchise group. With programs like the High School Summer Pass, Planet Fitness^® tries to promote healthy fitness habits for teenagers. The weight room renovations at Detroit Western International High School will help promote meaningful fitness habits within the school’s students.

In September, the groups unveiled the newly renovated weight room. To celebrate, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included Pistons legend Earl Cureton, Pistons Vice President of Community & Social Responsibility Erika Swilley and other Pistons employees. Additionally, Western International Principal Angel Garcia, United Dairy Chief Operating Officer Melissa Gerharter and EPIC Fitness Vice President of Marketing Mary Scott attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new and improved weight room featured co-branded Pistons wall graphics and a Milk Means More Fueling Station, which offers milk and snacks to student athletes at the high school. Additionally, EPIC Fitness provided exercise and workout equipment for the weight room, as well as flooring. The franchise group donated a mix of both cardio and strength equipment and included a Planet Fitness cleaning station with sanitation supplies. Aura Air also donated new air purifiers for the high school weight room.

“I was overwhelmed by how appreciative the students were for their new gym. Seeing the looks on their faces when they walked in for the first time was inspiring. We are so fortunate that EPIC Fitness can participate in projects like this and make a true difference in the communities that we are in,” said Scott of the renovation.

EPIC Fitness was happy to chip in with the Detroit Pistons and the United Dairy Industry of Michigan on the heavy lifting of the weight room and sees opportunities to expand similar renovations to other schools.
