Taymax Member Shows Strength by Winning Canada’s Ultimate Challenge
Planet Fitness® has members from all over completely transforming their lives and encouraging others to do the same. A member of Taymax’s Saint John, New Brunswick, location, Whitney Beers, not only had a fitness transformation, but was also one of the recent winners of Canada’s Ultimate Challenge television show, which aired on CBC starting April 28.
Beers has been a PF® member since 2022, and staff at the Taymax location have praised her drive and hard work throughout her weight loss transformation. After a huge loss, Beers showed resilience in the face of difficulties.
“I gained 70 pounds after my first pregnancy and actually lost my first baby at 19 days old. After that, I took my health very seriously as I wanted to get the healthiest I could to have more babies and live a long life for them. I’ve lost 65 pounds and have had two more babies since then and am the healthiest and fittest I’ve ever been,” Beers explained. “I never thought I could have three babies and have abs! I focus now on being strong and not skinny.”
For a whole year, Beers put her strength to the test and competed in season two of Canada’s Ultimate Challenge and won the entire show with her team. The show is an obstacle course competition reality TV show in which the entire country of Canada is a giant obstacle course. Across seven action-packed episodes, host Brandon Gonez led the show’s viewers through the drama, competition and eliminations. Starting in St. John’s, each episode is filmed in a new picturesque part of Canada. It was Beers’ first time competing on the show, as the producers of the show reached out to her on Instagram and asked her to apply.
“I didn’t think I’d stand a chance next to my fierce competitors, but I made sure to put my mental strength to the test as well as my physical strength and give it everything I had,” she said.
There were five teams with 20 players competing at the beginning, but participants were slowly eliminated until there was only one winning team. As the winners of this series, Beers’ team won a trip to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where they cheered on Canada’s Olympic team.
“My winning team was strong, but we also were kind and humble. It made winning that much better because my kids could see winning is more than physical strength, and it pays to be a good person,” said Beers.
