Taymax Fills Need for San Antonio Boys & Girls Clubs

Because of its longstanding relationship with Taymax Group, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio (BGCA) knew Planet Fitness® was its go-to partner for help following the reopening of the clubs after closures due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, water fountains in the clubs were designated as water bottle refill stations only. Many of the youth in the San Antonio locations, however, returned without reusable containers, creating a concern for the Boys & Girls Clubs about how the children would stay hydrated. Without hesitation, Taymax Group volunteered to assist in providing water bottles for the youth.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio know that they can count on Taymax, whether the need is great or small, as we have been a dedicated partner for several years,” said franchisee Tim Kelleher. “Taymax knows how impactful every donation can be for the youth of San Antonio, so we are always eager to help when we can.”

Taymax Group Area Director for San Antonio/Laredo Lisa Garcia immediately reached out to the general managers in the market, and together, the team gathered more than 425 PF® water bottles for the clubs’ youth.

“Our San Antonio team has an incredibly giving spirit, from area directors to MSRs. They know the work they do can make a difference, and they see it firsthand when participating in BGC events,” said Kelleher. “Getting involved with the Boys & Girls Club, through volunteer events or donations, brings our team together to accomplish something we can all be proud of. Taymax and Planet Fitness have been fortunate to see success and being able to help the next generation with that success is what makes all the hard work worth it.”

The BGCA praised the assistance of Taymax Group and Planet Fitness on social media and in a letter to Garcia. “Your recent gift of 400 water bottles helps provide kids with a sense of belonging, opportunities to lead and serve, and most of all, a chance to discover the potential within themselves to become great,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio CEO Angie Mock in the letter. “We are grateful for your commitment to our mission and your help in doing whatever it takes to see young people in San Antonio flourish and thrive.”

The donation this spring was just the latest in the 106-unit franchise organization’s work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio. On an annual basis, Taymax Group’s San Antonio team from 20 clubs participates in the Reindeer Brigade, an event that brings the group together to collect and wrap gifts for BGCA families and build lasting relationships in the process. Taymax Group also sponsors several events throughout the year, including kickball tournaments, holiday parties and the annual gala to name a few, and has built Mini Judgement Free Zones® at two San Antonio clubhouses.

“We know how impactful even the smallest gesture can be to someone’s day, especially amid what is currently happening in our world,” added Kelleher. “Boys & Girls Club teaches values that support inclusion and generosity, and we hope to be able to lead by example so the kids of Boys & Girls Clubs are inspired to do the same.”
