United Fitness Partners Fills Care Packages for Cancer Event
United Fitness Partners’ team members and local community members in Oklahoma City came together to uplift those impacted by cancer. Tenaciously Teal, a nonprofit that focuses on spreading love and hope to cancer patients, hosted “Care Packs and Costumes for Cancer.” UFP staff members from its Shawnee and Edmond, Oklahoma, clubs volunteered to support the organization.
For the event on Oct. 24, the volunteers made care packages for those fighting cancer. The boxes were filled with essentials and thoughtful items cancer patients may need when undergoing treatment, such as Chapstick, lotion, protein bars, water, socks, handwritten motivational messages and more. By the end of the day, there were 42,359 parcels delivered to cancer patients at local hospitals.
“Volunteering with the Care Packs for Cancer Event was such a beneficial opportunity. Coming together with a group of individuals all supporting the same cause, getting to meet a variety of people and bonding through this event was so enjoyable,” said Mariah Williams, club manager in Shawnee, Oklahoma. “With the amount of people who volunteered, the event had so many care packages created in just 1-2 hours. The packs were handmade, with special notes, essential and self-care items in them. I know this has impacted the lives of so many patients and their families. I can only imagine the smiles that were on their faces from the personalized art to the relief they felt by not having to worry about their essentials for that week.”
